Xenon Light Source

Xenon light source with a dedicated power supply, designed for XBO 450 and XBO 150 lamps. Equipped with a double-lens quartz glass condenser. Widely used in optical spectroscopy, spectrofluorometry, microscopy, endoscopy, and fiber optic technology.

XBO xenon arc lamps are characterized by:

  • high luminance (point light source)
  • color temperature of about 6000 K (daylight) regardless of lamp power
  • continuous spectrum in the visible range
  • high stability of the electric arc
  • long average operating time
  • light with full properties is obtained immediately after switching on
  • XBO075, XBO150, XBO450 and HBO200DC lamps are intended for use only in a vertical position
  • XBO150CR lamps can be used both in a horizontal position (average operating time is more than half as long) and vertical position

The light source set includes:

  • XBO 450 lamp (replacement) or XBO 150
  • Universal lamp housing with fan and reflector
  • Power supply with wiring counting lamp operating time
  • Quartz condenser, two-lens system with aperture f/# = 1 with position adjustment, collimating light to a beam with a diameter of 35 mm

The lamp is powered by a stabilized direct current, set to the nominal value given by the manufacturer. Thanks to precise current stabilization and low ripple, the lamp shines stably with RMS <0.5% measured 10 minutes after lamp ignition. Low ripple not only improves the quality of work, but also extends the life of the lamp.

The power supply is equipped with an ignition system that generates the high voltage necessary to start the lamp, as well as a safety system that protects against damage resulting from re-applying high voltage. Additionally, a built-in counter records the total operating time of the lamp.

The light source is equipped with a reflector and a two-lens condenser made of quartz glass with an aperture of f/# = 1. Such a constructed optical system enables collimation of the light emitted by the lamp and focusing the beam on the entrance seal of the monochromator

Uniwersalna lamp housing

Thanks to the universal housing, it is also possible to install other lamps with different spectral properties.

We use the following lamps:

  • OSRAM XBO xenon arc lamps with power of 75W, 150W and XBO lamp replacements with power of 450W
  • OSRAM HLX low-voltage halogen bulbs with power from 100W to 400W
  • OSRAM HBO mercury arc lamps with power up to 50W, 200W
  • It is possible to make an illuminator with a lamp specified by the customer

The graph below shows the fraction of radiated energy in a specific spectral range relative to the total radiated energy of the source.

The light source set includes a power supply designed to work with a given lamp.

OPTEL OPOLE is a manufacturer of specialist transformer power supplies for OSRAM XBO and HBO series high-pressure arc lamps. ZXE and ZHG arc lamp power supplies have an ignition system that generates high voltage to ignite the lamp and an automation system that protects the lamp from damage resulting from repeated application of high voltage to it. The power supplies are additionally equipped with a counter counting the lamp’s operating time.

OPTEL OPOLE is also a manufacturer of specialist DC power supplies for OSRAM HLX series low-voltage halogen lamps. ZHA power supplies provide the nominal, regulated voltage required for this type of lamp

Solar Simulator with additional equipment

The setup consists of:

  • Universal lamp housing with a two-lens condenser made of quartz glass
  • Xenon lamp XBO 150W/CR OFR or 500W OFR
  • Xenon lamp power supply ZXE 150
  • AM 1.5 atmospheric filter
  • Optical bench 0.5 m long
  • Aperture diaphragm 25 mm in diameter
  • A diaphragm allowing to set the exposure time from 1 s to 30 min
  • Darkroom with doors measuring 600x500x480 mm (length x width x height)
  • Flat aluminum mirror
  • Filter holder mounted on the bench

EQE measurement for photovoltaic cells. The simulator with a 500W xenon lamp allows the illumination of an area of ​​70mm diameter with a uniformity of <10%.
